1968 - Tasman Series
1969 - Surfers Paradise 12 Hour Production Car Race
1964 - Ampol Trial
1975 - BP Desert Rally
The 1968 Tasman Series saw the international debut of the the Gold Leaf liveried Team Lotus 49’s. Sadly, these races were the last for Jim Clark. He and Chris Amon in the Dino powered Ferrari put on a stiring battle, against Graham Hill, Jack Brabham Denny Hulme and Piers Courage.
In early 1969 Surfers Paradise staged a 12 hour production car race, with Ford, Holden, Alfa Romeo and Mini all battling for top honours.
The 1964 Ampol Trial revived the tradition of long distance rallies.
However, taking part in a Lightburn Zeta, the most unlikely competition vehicle in Australian Motor Sports history, was even more of a challenge.
The BP Desert Rally showed that Baja style off road racing had firmly taken hold in Australia 1975. In fact many vehicles competing today don’t look much different!
